FSC Daily Fishing Report - Thursday, September 10, 2026

A father and son first trip turned into a fine afternoon on our Campbell River fishing charter, with Chinook salmon to 16 pounds off the Green Can during peak Tyee season.

Father and son with Chinook salmon caught trolling the Green Can, Discovery Passage, Campbell River

Conditions Report: Thursday, September 10, 2026

September gave us one of its easy afternoons. Clear sky overhead, air at 13°C, and a west wind blowing a soft seven knots. Visibility ran clean past 10 km. The Discovery Passage marine forecast held seas to a metre or less through our window, though northwest 20 to 30 knots and fog patches were queued up for overnight. We fished the good hours and were tucked back in before any of it arrived.

The tide set the table. High water landed at 5:03 PM at 13.0 feet, and we worked the flood building into it. Seymour Narrows ran hard on the ebb at over 15 knots, with slack before ebb at 5:04 PM. A New Moon sat at just 3% illuminated, and the solunar forecast was rated Excellent. The minor feeding window at moonrise, from 4:13 to 5:13 PM, lined up right with high slack. That's usually when the rods start talking, and today was no different.

The Catch

We ran the standard Discovery Passage spread — hoochies and Tiger Prawn behind flashers, downriggers down 80 to 120 feet, boat speed holding around 2.5 knots. Water temp read 16.5°C, warm enough to keep the Chinook active and up in the column.

Today's guests were Luke and his dad Peter, a father and son out for their very first charter. The Green Can produced. Twelve Chinook came to the boat, chrome bright and fresh, most sitting in the 12 to 16 lb range. Three went in the box, nine went back to keep the run strong. The best taped a clean 16 pounds. Luke's first salmon won't be his last, and the two of them had so much fish they're running it straight to the local smokers.

What's Running in September

September is Tyee season around Campbell River, and it's one of the finest windows of the year. Under DFO Area 13 rules for September, Chinook run two per day with a 62 cm minimum and no maximum size, which means big fish can come home. Most Chinook this month land in that solid 12 to 16 lb range, with a real chance at a trophy in the 30-pound class for the patient angler. Coho are also in the mix through the fall. Fish are feeding hard before the run finishes, and the Green Can, Cape Mudge, and the waters below the Narrows all fish well.
