Day Two delivered for a returning crew from Sorrento, who limited out on Chinook plus Lingcod off the red can in Discovery Passage. This Campbell River fishing charter ran Tomic plugs at 220ft under a Full Moon and an excellent solunar day.

Grey sky, a soft southeast wind, and a metre of chop off the red can. The kind of morning that looks quiet and fishes loud.
Air temp held at 17°C under an overcast sky, with a southeast wind at 15 km/h (8 knots). Visibility ran clean at 10 km. We left Coast Marina A Dock into the early bite, sunrise having broken at 6:28 AM. The marine forecast called southeast 5 to 15 knots and seas one metre or less - and it held true all morning. Just enough texture on the water to work the plugs, calm enough to fish in comfort.
Tides ran in our favour. The flood built through the morning, pushing bait south through Discovery Passage. Seymour Narrows was ripping over 12 knots at peak flood, so we stayed clear and worked the water off the red can. Slack before ebb came late in the day at 5:41 PM, but the morning current did the work we needed.
The Catch
We ran Tomic plugs on the downriggers, dropped to 220ft, trolling around two and a half knots. Water temperature read 18.2°C - warm, active fish. The plugs did the talking. Chrome bright Chinook came up steady, most of them 12-16 lbs, with the best fish of the day taping 15. A couple of Lingcod rounded out the box.
A Full Moon sat overhead, 100% lit, and the solunar rating read Excellent. The mid-morning feeding window lined up with the flood, and the rods told us about it. seann, chase, lyle and Lenard from Sorrento were back for Day Two, and they limited out. Four grins, chrome on the deck, and the quiet pride of a full box.
What's Running in August
Late August is prime summer Chinook season around Campbell River. Fish are running solid in the 12-16 lb range, with a genuine chance at a trophy over 30 lbs. Under DFO Area 13 rules for July 15 to August 31, Chinook are one per day within a 62-80cm slot - anything over 80cm goes back to keep the run strong. Come September 1, the slot lifts and the Tyee season opens for bigger fish. Lingcod are open too, adding a bonus to any full-day trip. It's a good time to be on this water.
