FSC Daily Fishing Report - Saturday, June 27, 2026
On a clear June morning, first-time guests Evan and Kaedn landed 17 Coho on Discovery Passage with this Campbell River fishing charter — the best a chrome 7-pounder. Summer Coho season is on.
Conditions Report: June 27, 2026
June gave us about as fine a morning as the West Coast offers. Clear sky overhead, air temp at 15°C feeling like 14°C with a light WNW breeze around 8 knots. Visibility ran a clean 10 km. The sun was already up by 5:13 AM when we slipped A Dock for the 6am departure, and it wouldn't set until 9:34 PM.
The marine forecast called for northwest 20 to 30 knots out in Johnstone Strait, but Discovery Passage stayed kind — seas a metre or less, light chop, blue-green water. We picked our sheltered seams and let the Boston Whaler Montauk do what she does best. The tide was a factor: a deep midday low of 2.4 ft at 11:32 AM with the flood building, and at Seymour Narrows the ebb was running hard near 12.7 knots. We worked the moving water and the bite followed.
The Catch
We set the downriggers at 80 to 120 feet and trolled hoochies behind flashers, the Army truck pattern earning its keep all morning. Speed sat around 2.5 to 3 knots to give that plastic squid its roll. The water was warm — 16.8°C — and the Coho were sitting shallow and active.
Working the green can on the flood, the fish came willing. By the time we ran the lines in, the count read 2 kept and 17 released, the best a chrome bright 7 pounder. Evan and Kaedn, a father and son up from San Francisco on their first ever Campbell River trip, took turns on the rod. The boy held up his catch and flashed a peace sign for the camera. Eagles wheeled overhead and sea lions surfaced nearby — the full Discovery Passage show.
What's Running in June
Summer is Coho season in Campbell River, and these silver fish are scrappy and willing on the troll. Most run in the 4 to 7 lb range right now, with the run only building as the weeks pass. Chinook are around too — typical fish run 12 to 16 lbs, with a chance at a trophy 30-plus pounder. Remember the DFO Area 13 rules through summer: Chinook over 80cm must be released to keep the run strong. We fish those regs honestly and frame every release as a win for the future.
