FSC Daily Fishing Report - Saturday, July 25, 2026
A rainy afternoon Campbell River fishing charter in Brown's Bay delivered chrome salmon on the end of the flood tide — four wild coho released and a solid 15 lb Chinook for the table.
Conditions Report: Saturday, July 25, 2026
The rain came steady off a low grey ceiling, the kind of afternoon that keeps the fair-weather crowd ashore and rewards those who go anyway. Air temp held at 18°C with a southeast wind blowing 10 to 15 knots and gusting toward 20. Visibility ran about 10 km, misty at the edges. The marine forecast for Discovery Passage promised seas of 1 metre or less, and it delivered — a light chop, nothing more.
The tide was the day's compass. The big high built toward 5:28 PM at 12.3 feet, and we fished the end of the flood when that last push of water stacks bait tight against the shoreline. Seymour Narrows ran a heavy 11.9-knot ebb earlier in the day, so we left the big rapids alone and let the current in Brown's Bay do the honest work.
The Catch
We kept it simple. Spoons with their flashy metallic wobble, run 111 feet down on the downriggers, water reading a warm 18.3°C. Warm water means active fish, and the rods proved it. Four wild coho came up bright and went back to keep the run strong — a release we take pride in every time. Two solid salmon stayed for the table, the best of the day pushing 15 pounds of clean chrome. Greg, Dionne, Nina and Peter, a first-time crew from right here in Campbell River, got the full local experience. Peter said he loves fishing in Campbell River, and standing there in the rain with a bent rod, it was easy to see why.
What's Running in July
Late July is prime feeder Chinook time in Discovery Passage, with coho building through the summer. Most Chinook run 12 to 16 pounds this season, with a real chance at a trophy 30-plus pounder. DFO Area 13 rules for July 15 to August 31 hold to one Chinook per day in a 62 to 80 cm slot — anything over 80 cm goes back for conservation. Wild coho are released to protect the run. It's honest fishing by the book, and the fish reward the patience.
