FSC Daily Fishing Report - Sunday, June 21, 2026

A bluebird summer morning delivered doubleheaders on Discovery Passage. Ron and Donna celebrated a birthday with this Campbell River fishing charter, landing chrome Chinook salmon and Coho — 4 kept, 15 released.

Angler holds chrome Chinook salmon on calm Discovery Passage, Campbell River, sunny June morning

=== Conditions Report: June 21, 2026 === Summer arrived in full this morning on Discovery Passage. Clear sky, 22°C, and a light easterly breeze barely moving at 2 km/h — the kind of day where the water lies flat as a window and the Coast Mountains stand sharp on the far horizon. Visibility ran a clean 10 km. The marine forecast had northwest winds of 20 to 30 knots building for later and fog patches overnight, but the early hours gave us calm seas of a metre or less, mostly glass with a light ripple.

The tide set up well. Low water came at 7:41 AM at 6.1 feet, building toward a midday high of 9.1 feet. Slack before flood at Seymour Narrows hit 6:11 AM, and we worked the early flood as the current pushed bait around the navigation cans. Seymour was running hard at 7.7 knots through the day, so we stayed in the Passage proper and let the moving water do the work.

=== The Catch === We departed Coast Marina A Dock aboard the Boston Whaler Conquest with Ron and Donna — their first time out, and Donna's birthday. The plan was simple and it worked: trolling hoochies behind flashers, downriggers set deep at 220 feet, speed around 2.5 knots. Water temp read a warm 16.8°C, and the fish were active and feeding. The First Quarter moon and the major underfoot feeding window from 4:17 to 6:17 AM lined right up with our early bite.

Then it went off. Doubleheaders all morning — two rods firing at once, hands full of salmon. We finished with 4 kept and 15 released, a healthy mix of Chinook and Coho. The best fish was a chrome-bright 16 lb Chinook, fresh from the salt. Anything over the slot went back to keep the run strong.

=== What's Running in June === June on Discovery Passage means feeder and early-summer Chinook, with Coho arriving and building through the season. Most Chinook this time of year run 12 to 16 pounds, with the chance at a trophy 30-plus pounder for the patient angler. Under DFO Area 13 regulations, Chinook must measure at least 62cm to retain, and conservation-minded releases of the bigger fish keep these runs healthy for years to come. Warm water and active bait have the fish feeding well right now.

=== Book Your Trip === The summer salmon season is on, and mornings like this are why we love the Passage. The Boston Whaler Conquest offers a heated cabin, private washroom, and Starlink WiFi, with room for groups up to 4.
