The 2025 salmon season is officially underway, and what a start it has been! We hit the water early on opening day and were rewarded with beautiful Chinook and Coho right out of the gate.
First Fish of the Season
There is something magical about that first fish of a new season. This year, it did not take long. Within the first hour, we had our first Chinook in the boat - a beautiful 18-pounder that fought hard and got everyone's adrenaline pumping.
Opening Day Conditions
- Weather: Light overcast, calm seas - perfect fishing conditions
- Water temp: 10ยฐC, right in the zone for active fish
- Bait: Cut-plug herring was the ticket
- Depth: Fish were holding at 90-110 feet
What We Expect This Season
Based on early returns and ocean conditions, we are optimistic about the 2025 season. DFO forecasts are looking positive for both Chinook and Coho returns. The feeder Chinook fishing through May and June should be excellent, setting us up for a banner summer.

- Be patient: Early season fish can be scattered - we may need to cover water
- Fish deep: May fish often hold deeper than summer fish
- Stay flexible: Weather can be variable, so build flexibility into your plans
- Book ahead: Prime dates fill up fast once the season gets rolling
