July 2025 Fishing Report: Peak Season Arrives
Peak salmon season is here! Chinook, Coho, and Sockeye are all running strong in Campbell River waters. Here's what we're seeing on the water.
Peak Season Has Arrived!
July is here, and Campbell River is living up to its reputation as the Salmon Capital of the World. All five species of Pacific salmon are now present in our waters, creating incredible fishing opportunities for our guests.
Species Report
Chinook (King) Salmon
The Chinook fishing has been outstanding. We are landing fish in the 12-25 pound range consistently, with several fish over 30 pounds this month. Discovery Passage and the waters around Quadra Island are holding good numbers of fish.
Coho (Silver) Salmon
Early Coho are starting to show up in increasing numbers. While not at peak levels yet, we are catching bright fish in the 6-10 pound range. August should bring even better Coho action.
Sockeye (Red) Salmon
The Sockeye run is underway! These beautiful fish are migrating through Discovery Passage, and when regulations allow, they make excellent table fare.
Hot Spots This Week
- Cape Mudge: Consistent Chinook action at 80-120 feet
- Willow Point: Good early morning bite
- Quadra Island: Mixed bag of Chinook and Coho
- Seymour Narrows: Fish stacking up on tide changes
Tactics That Are Working
We are fishing a mix of cut-plug herring and anchovy, depending on conditions. Flasher-hoochie combos are also producing well for Coho. The key has been adjusting depth based on water temperature and tide.
