The forecast is looking ideal for a solid day on the water. We're looking at 7°C, overcast skies, and light SE winds at 8 km/h — essentially glassy conditions with negligible wave height. Morning slack into flood tide means excellent water movement through Discovery Passage, and that's when the Chinook bite really turns on. The fish are filling out beautifully this week, averaging 15–25 lbs, and they're aggressive feeders as water temperatures stabilize.

What's Running and Why

Spring Chinook are the stars of May in Campbell River and throughout the Johnstone Strait system. These powerful fish are migrating upriver, and Discovery Passage concentrates them into predictable feeding zones. Right now, they're keying on herring and small baitfish in the tidal races.
